@Martijn Thanks for your support.

I finally worked this out the stupid way, by giving 30 cents to Google and associating my daughter's e-mail to my identity. It's a bit ridiculous, but well, too bad. She just won't be able to use Google+, but that isn't a big loss. IN two weeks, she will be a very happy and legal Facebook user (I am not endorsing Facebook here, but she clearly is, like 99% of her friends).

And, by the way, after a little more support, I am now a happy user of Amazon Cloud Player, about ready to pay $25 to put all my music there, just to be able to listen to any element of my music collection when I want to (and continue getting great support).

Yep, there have been many similar stories on internet, in many countries of the world. Sadly, they don't seem to end well very often.

I also agree with both your comments. The funny thing is that my home computer has a coud backup, but not my cloud data. Or at least, my cloud data is not protected against my cloud providers (Google in this case). I guess that I should change that.

I feel sorry for your daughter's loss. This probably happen quite often : http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/blogpost/post/hey-google-thanks-for-making-my-daughter-cry/2011/12/12/gIQAhYx9pO_blog.html

Anyway, a couple of comments :
-- Amazon's support is just very good. I never had any issue with them not doing the right thing. I'm not fully sure that it is related to the fact that you're paying or not. People who pay for Google Apps still find the support lacking.
-- Cloud backup is an issue which is not going away. For email it is trivial (just use a rich mail client from time to time) but for anything more complicated one need to think carefully about what happen when the provider stops providing the service or just goes up in flames.
