Interview

Card Technology has published an interview of me, and the good news is that I still agree with me, even after editing. Of course, I would have liked to elaborate more on some topics, and sometimes to make my views more subtle. But there is always a limit to the size of an article.

One of these abrupt point of views is the one about Multos:

Sadly, Multos, when it was first released, was a credible alternative to Java Card, but today it represents such a small portion of the market, I’m not sure it’s significant.

Well, I said that, and I really believe that their market share is quite small today, which reduces their significance. This comment spurred a reaction from John Wood, chair of the Multos consortium, and I want to reassure him and the Multos community that I am not a Java Card bigot, that I still believe that Multos has many technical merits, and that I would not dare predict what their role will be in the future. There is room for several smart card open environments, and I hope that Multos will remain one of them.
